Hi, I want to share my experience while travelling years ago. Hope this can be useful for you all. Feel free to add yours. Thanks.

Things you must carry when travelling in a tropical area

1. mosquito repellant
2. medicine for dengue and malaria; influenza, aspirin and stomachache
3. hv urself vaccinated for rabies
4. sun lotion, sun hat, glasses (and bikinis!)
5. raincoat or umbrella (this you can borrow from the hotel/villa instead, but best you bring yourself)

Bali & Dengue

Thanks for posting! Typically in Bali malaria is not such a problem -- though a few cases are reported. A bigger threat is Dengue. This year we saw a number of cases and they can be severe. (There is no "cure" for Dengue. You need care and time to outlast it.)

Dengue, like malaria, is mosquito-borne; the best prevention is to use repellant and to not forget the mosquito nets at your accommodations. Lot of villas in Bali are open air, so the need for nets is real.

On the whole, be safe, but don't worry too much -- it can spoil your trip and that would be out of line with the severity of the threat.

best,
